Kevin Smith Caricature

Regular readers will already know that I'm a Kevin Smith fan, as I posted that I went to one of his 'An Evening with...' performances in September. Been wanting to do a caricature of him for awhile, and finally got around to it over the holidays.

A few things about this piece. His first movie, Clerks, was shot in black and white, so I decided not to add colour to the caricature. In one of the 'An Evening with...' DVD's, he's at a performance in Toronto and talks about the Canadian obsession/addiction to Tim Horton's, and how he got sucked into it as well. Somebody gave him a box of Timbits (doughnut holes, for you 'Mercans) and he ate a few on stage.

I posted this on the View Askew forum, Kevin's own message board, and some of his devoted fans took exception to the fact that I exaggerated his weight. One thing about caricature, you will never please everyone.

I'm sure the super fans on the View Askew forum wouldn't be happy unless you plated him in platinum and had everyone from the View Askewniverse all in the caricature too. Awesome job and I've been a big fan of his since Clerks. Wasn't sure why it as bw but now that I know I like it.

Wish I knew who Kevin smith was as this sketch kicks ass.
To redeem myself to the Canadian nation for not knowing their celebs it might be of some interest to you to know that I'm playing around with a few ideas for a trailer park boys caricature. I love that show.

Keep submitting the great art and thank you for the very generous comments on my Bruce.
